How To Become A Professional Manager

This is an article that covers everything that involves coaching and getting to become a licensed coach.

As a football fan, surely, you’ve wondered what goes on in coaching institutions?

How badges are gotten? The type of education young potential coaches undergo and what might go on to differentiate an average manager from a world-class coach.

Everyone talks about courses, getting Badges, and licensing, but one of the first steps an aspiring coach should take is trying to get involved.

It could be a local grassroots club in your area, but being involved (like volunteering) would help any prospective coach learn some basic aspects involved in coaching.

It would also help you know if he would enjoy coaching, having a real experience would help decide if you are 100% certain you want to be involved in coaching.

If you realize you like it, enjoy it, and you feel like you are in the right environment, the next steps are crucial.

This is a course that can be found on the F.A website.

It is free, and it lasts for 4–8hours.

Doing the BT playmaker course would help in providing valuable information like;

How to provide a safe, positive environment for people to learn and develop.

Although it is not compulsory, it can serve as the first prerequisite for the next step(which is the first step involved in getting licensed)

With the. BT playmaker course done and you already part of a grassroots club. The next step is to get the first license (Level one).

As I mentioned earlier, licenses and badges are very important, but picking up valuable information and learning from the coaches in the grassroots system is equally as important especially the very knowledgeable and respected ones.

You can also watch their sessions and pick their brains as some of the knowledge they would share would be very valuable to your development because at this stage you are going to be trying to learn:

How to structure training sessions and. keep them flowing

Knowing the right intensity for sessions etc

These things take time to learn, so researching and learning from coaches around is be very important.

“Level one” is the first paid course.

It cost about £160 and lasts for about 4 weeks.

It would enable you to be an elite coach, and become more influential in a grassroots setting.

“Level one” teaches important aspects about that level of football and it is the bedrock for all the things you would be implementing as you go through your licenses, and journey as a coach.

Qualifications with regards to coaching have this principle of “the higher you go, the smaller the pool gets”.

This means the higher you go, the more valuable you become.

After “level one”, the next stage is the

This is where it becomes to get meatier. The Uefa C is slightly more difficult but more exciting.

It is also longer than the previous ones, it lasts for 12 months(a total of 145 hours).

The UEFA C course costs about £415 too and is available online, on the FA website( as the previous two).

The UEFA C is a mixture of being on the grass(as a coach) and having sessions with tutors from the FA.

Hours on the grass means you would be planning and having your sessions, analyzing them.

Because of the smaller amount of people in this pool, The UEFA C badge also allows you to move into the paid sector of football coaching while continuing your development.

You would be an expert on grassroots football at this stage and you can branch out to other aspects too like having your business (which could be one-to-one coaching, having a specialist group for players, or hiring your services to local grassroots teams). The UEFA C is a respected badge that opens some windows of opportunity.

In the U.K, Professional clubs are always in demand of UEFA C qualified coaches.

Uefa C courses focus more on the tactical and technical aspects of the game(rather than just sessions)

You delve into different techniques and learn to develop a player’s skill set.

It also teaches a broader aspect of the game; like off-the-ball movement, Pressing (in and out of possession), etc.

With your. UEFA C license and some work experience, you would be eligible to apply for the UEFA B license.

The Uefa B license is a significant upgrade and not a lot of people move on to this level for several reasons;

- they are comfortable working and getting paid with their Uefa C license

- It is quite expensive and challenging

The Uefa B license costs about £1500–2000 and it lasts for 9–12months.

The UEFA B course is a bit more challenging, but there is a vast amount of knowledge to be gained, and the toy moves from learning to develop isolated skills(like small drills and little aspects of the game) to bigger areas like;

- using the whole width of the pitch to learn about phases of play

- You learn to think more tactically, and technically.

The UEFA B license opens doors to jobs at professional clubs, academies, and you begin to operate at an elite level.

This course will develop technical and tactical coaching to improve players and teams in 11-a-side football, prepare a team, and lead them into matches. It is aimed at coaches working in or aspiring to work in the professional game. To do this course, you must be actively coaching. Priority is given to full-time coaches working in the senior professional game.

This is the highest level of coaching qualification available. This course is for coaches who have experience in the professional game and want to become head coaches for a professional team.

In summary, qualifications are necessary, but time spent on the grass, learning, and practicing is always important. It is where you get the most progress and improvements.

You get to discover your philosophy and style while doing this and learn from other people, more experienced people.
